Our Story

Papote was born out of early motherhood, and the identity shift that comes with it.

As a non native Dutch person, and the first in my friendship group to have a baby, I felt deeply isolated. I loved Amsterdam, but suddenly struggled to find places where both my child and I felt truly welcome.

De Baarsjes is full of great cafés and spaces- just not many that are both genuinely child-friendly and adult-friendly.

Every outing felt like a compromise: either loud, overstimulating places with oily fries, or beautiful adult spaces where bringing a baby felt inconvenient.

I kept thinking:
why should either of us have to compromise?

That question planted the first seeds of Papote.

I left my corporate job to build the space I wished existed for myself, my daughter, and for families navigating the early years of parenthood.

A place where food and play live together seamlessly. Where parents feel seen and thought of. Where children are welcomed as they are.

Papote is, above all, about people.

A space to gather, to pause and to enjoy life together, at every age.

That question planted the first seeds of Papote.
